Effect of Pva Modification on Properties of Cement Composites

Abstract: Polymers are used for modification of the cement-based composites and others building materials since the thirties of 20th century. Based on the conclusions of recent studies, it is assumed that even water soluble polymers could be used as an admixture for such modification. Currently, there exist and are exploited several possibilities for polymer modification of mortars, wood-based products or bituminous asphalts. Various options differ in the way of modification, which can be basically applied to the entire… Show more

“…This may be due to the complex interaction between PVA and the ingredients of cement. In contrast with what was reported by Topič et al (2015), the addition of PVA to paste and mortar results in decreased workability, density, and compressive strength, while it increases the bending strength. A number of studies have focused on modified PVA and investigated its effects on the mechanical properties of cement and other building materials (Krepplet et al, 2002;Allahverdi, 2010;Kou and Poon, 2010).…”

“…The proper basic natural frequencies were evaluated from the FRFs. Then the dynamic modulus of elasticity and the dynamic shear modulus were evaluated based on the basic longitudinal natural frequency of the samples and the basic torsional natural frequency of the sample, respectively [16,17]. Figure 2 shows the evolution of the bulk density, where the free water evaporates over time, thereby changing the bulk density of the samples.…”

“…Meanwhile, the addition of PVA fiber also improves the impact toughness and durability of composite materials [ 14 , 15 , 16 ]. At present, most of the mechanical performance tests of PVA fiber on cementitious composite materials have confirmed increases in the porosity of the cement paste and the flexural strength of concrete [ 17 , 18 ].…”
