“…Scorpion venom has been shown to increase the release of acetylcholine from slices of rat brain (Gomez et al, 1973) and segments of guinea-pig ileum (Diniz and Torres, 1968). It enhances the release of preloaded [U-'4C]glutamate and [U-I4C]GABA from rat cortical synaptosomes (Dolly et al, 1978), and there is evidence that it releases catecholamines from rat rnyenteric plexus (Tafuri et al, 1971). Tityustoxin, the active component of the venom which has been used in these studies, appears to work by depolarising nerve terminals through an action at the 'active' sodium channel (Linden and Raftery, 1976).…”
