Effect of premilking teat sanitation on milk composition, somatic cell count and test day milk yield in Holstein cows

Abstract: The objective of the present study was to determine the efficacy of premilking teat sanitation applications on milk composition, somatic cell count (SCC) and test day milk yield (TDMY) in Holstein cows. The research was conducted in two private farms located in Hódmezõvásárhely, South- Hungary. In the first trial, only water and drying application (WD) was practiced to 791 cows and in the second trial, disinfectant solution and drying application (DD) was performed to 1418 cows. Fat (F), protein (P) and lactos… Show more

“…The SCC and milk analyses were performed by monthly intervals. While SCC data were obtained by a milk analyser, fat and protein content (%) of milk was analysed by spectrometer (Mikóné Jónás et al, 2018). To examine mastitis case, first mastitis day (FMD) of cows and total mastitis case (TMC) according to SCC results in the lactation was evaluated.…”

“…In the management and prevention of mastitis, a multifactorial approach with the focus on milking should be taken into account (Hristov and Relić, 2003;De Vliegher et al, 2018). Of great importance is the impact of applying hygienic practices at a farm on the bacteriological quality and somatic cell count of raw milk Riekerink et al, 2012;Williamson and Lacy-Hulbert, 2013;Pandey et al, 2014, Jónás et al, 2018, Mihajlović et al, 2022. Milkers should familiarize themselves with the most important aspects in the application of cow udder disinfection , the disinfection of udders and milking equipment (Hristov et al, 1995), as well as the disinfection of cow udders before and aft er milking (Hristov et al, 1997).…”

“…Th e eff ect of premilking teat foam disinfection on the prevention of new mastitis rates in early lactation is discussed in detail by Fitzpatrick et al (2021). Th e eff ect of premilking teat sanitation on milk composition, somatic cell count and test-day milk yield in Holstein cows was studied by Jónás et al (2018).…”

“…Most of poultry farms and LPMs had poor biosecurity conditions, especially overlooking the construction of disinfection techniques. Disinfectants are widely used in antiviral, antibacterial, and animal husbandry production (Jónás et al, 2018;Fan et al, 2015;Montazeri et al, 2017). The choice of effective disinfectants for AIV is often hard.…”
