Effect of plasma nitriding on high‐cycle fatigue properties and fracture behaviors of GJS700 nodular cast iron under cyclic bending loading

Abstract: In this article, the influence of plasma nitriding on the fatigue behavior and fracture mechanisms of the GJS700 nodular cast iron has been investigated. Factors contributing to this influence, which included the microstructure, the phase detection, the surface roughness, and the hardness of the plasma‐nitrided specimens were discussed. Moreover, rotating‐bending high‐cycle fatigue testing was also done on standard samples, and then the field‐emission scanning electron microscopy was also utilized to find the … Show more

“…From the above discussion, it is clear that the effect of solidification defects on fatigue properties of DCI components has been thoroughly investigated. However, it is worth noting that this research topic is still open, since a unique approach regarding the influence of both non‐nodular graphite particles and micro‐shrinkage porosity on fatigue behavior has not yet been achieved 37,38 …”

“…More details for the fabrication of the studied materials could be found in the literature by Aroo et al [1], Azadi et al [3], Rezanezhad et al [10], and Zolfaghari et al [11]. In addition, more details of fatigue testing and the geometry of standard cylindrical samples could be followed in the literature by Parast et al [12], Sharifi et al [13], and Khisheh et al [14]. After testing, a regression curve-fitting process was done for the sensitivity analysis on experimental data.…”
