Abstract: PurposeGiven that emotional health is a critical component of healthy aging, we undertook a systematic literature review to assess whether current interventions can positively affect older adults’ emotional health.MethodsA national panel of health services and mental health researchers guided the review. “…The changes observed over time reveal that an absence of psychological support may be one of the reasons for dependency after four months. Findings in this study are consistent with previous studies conducted on groups, consisting of not only healthy individuals, dealing with the interdependency between physical functions and emotional health and their effects on everyday life (Snowden et al, 2014;Taylor et al, 2010;. Zidén et al, 2010) The negative consequences of a hip fracture can be long-lasting (Dyer et al, 2016;Taylor et al, 2010;.Zidén et al, 2010).…”

“…One of the findings of this study was that AA women may be more vulnerable to the effects of living alone on depression compared to AA men. While social support is shown to be important for mental health in all groups [109,110,111], social relations are particularly consequential for AAs [112,113,114,115,116]. Social support promotes mental health directly and buffers the effect of stress [117].…”

“…Following the analysis of systematic reviews and meta-analyses (Cattan et al, 1998;Cattan et al, 2005;Cohen-Mansfield et al, 2016;Dickens et al, 2011;Hagan et al, 2014;Masi et al, 2011;Pels et al, 2016;Petitte et al, 2015;Smith et al, 2017;Snowden et al, 2014), there is a lack of available evidence for PA intervention effects for social health outcomes in community-dwelling older adults. Some reviews focus either on non-PA interventions in a wide diversity of participants and settings (Masi et al, 2011) or include non-experimental designed interventions, which reduce the methodological rigour of evidence (Hagan et al, 2014;Pels et al, 2016).…”
