Effect of Pb(NO3)2 on Preparation and Properties of CF/β-PbO2 Electrodes for Zinc Electrowinning

Abstract: In this study, the β-PbO2 active layer was deposited on the surface of the carbon fiber cloth by electrodeposition. The CF/β-PbO2 electrode was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), anodic polarization curves, Tafel curves, and a four-probe method. It was found that a uniform and flattened dense β-PbO2 active layer is obtained when the concentration of Pb(NO3)2 is 150 g l−1. The deposition quality of the active layer of β-PbO2 particles in the carbon fiber is affected by the concentration of Pb(N… Show more

“…When the polarization potential of the electrode negatively shifted by 100 mV, the electrochemical catalytic activity of the electrode can be increased by about 10 times. 19 Therefore, the electrocatalytic activity of the CF/Ti/β-PbO 2 composite anode is much better than that of the Pb–Ag anode.…”

“…The corrosion rate of the CF/β-PbO 2 anode was 1.64 × 10 −3 g cm −2 h −1 , which is about 1/5 of that of the conventional lead–silver alloy anode. 19 However, the tank voltage of the CF/β-PbO 2 anode is 3.386 V, and the electrolytic current efficiency is 85.7%. In comparison with the conventional lead–silver alloy anode, which has a cell voltage of 3.3–3.6 V and an electrolytic current efficiency of 80–93%, the CF/β-PbO 2 anode has limited improvement.…”

“…Although the Jcorr hardly gives many Mg alloys accurate corrosion rates, it is still receivable to make a qualitative reference [39]. According to literature research, a smaller Jcorr value shows better corrosion resistance [40,41]. Therefore, the order of corrosion resistance of the alloy is Mg-1Sn > Mg-5Sn > Mg-9Sn.…”

“…The Ti/Sb-SnO 2 /β-PbO 2 composite anode showed a prolonged electrolysis duration of 23 h at a steady current density of 1.0 A•cm −2 in a solution containing 1.0 mol•l −1 of H 2 SO 4 . Research on the benefits of carbon fiber-based anodes, including their lightweight nature, excellent electrical conductivity, and robust resistance to corrosion, [24][25][26][27] has gained significant attention. The corrosion rates of CF/β-PbO 2 anodes and traditional lead-silver anodes are 1.53 × 10 −3 g•cm −2 •h −1 and 8.64 × 10 −3 g•cm −2 •h −1 , respectively.…”
