Effect of Partial Devascularization on the Blood Flow Distribution in the Cat Stomach

Abstract: Partial devascularization of the stomach was performed in cats anesthetized with pentobarbital. Gastric blood flow distribution and cardiac output were determined by means of the microsphere distribution technique. Blood flow was determined before and 30 min after the partial devascularization. Devascularization of the lesser curvature caused a significant decrease in the mucosal and muscularis blood flow at the lesser curvature. After devascularization of the greater curvature, localized reduction in mucosal … Show more

“…We have previously found a regional decrease in mucosal blood flow after partial devascularization of the stomach in cats (20). In the present experiment we found decreased mucosal blood flow after devascularization in animals given pentagastrin, which is known to cause vasodilatation and increased blood flow in the acid-secreting part of the mucosa in cats (17).…”

“…In a previous study regional reduction in gastric blood flow was found after partial devascularization (20). The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of partial gastric devascularization on acid secretion and mucosal blood flow to the acid-secreting part of the stomach.…”

“…The effect of partial devascularization of the stomach on the gastric blood flow has been investigated during experimental conditions in animals [3,4]. Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) is a method which has been proven capable of reflecting changes in the gastric blood flow in animals, and in a previous study we have shown that it is a practical means of studying gastric circulation endoscopically in conscious man [5][6][7].…”
