Effect of Parasitic Capacitance on Impedance Measurement and Model Extraction

Abstract: Impedance spectroscopy has been widely used for the characterization of materials and structures. An impedance model can be employed to extract electrical parameters ascribed to the electrical properties of material interiors, boundaries, and external material/electrode interfaces. In an impedance model, a parasitic capacitance exerts an important effect, and is thus an essential to be added. In this paper, dramatic impact of parasitics on impedance spectra and parameter extraction is investigated using theore… Show more

“…To verify the uniformity of current density, an electrical simulation or modeling study should be performed in cases in which nonconventional electrode designs are incorporated into a TEER measurement system. In custom-designed electrical measurement equipment or setup for impedance spectroscopy-based TEER measurements, it is important to isolate the effects of parasitic capacitance 128 by parameter extraction using theoretical analyses and equivalent circuit simulations.…”

“…As corneal impedance in function of current frequency was highly similar to a low-pass filter signal ( Obeid et al, 2017 ), the electrical modeling of cornea was obtained through fitting a passive second order low-pass model to corneal impedance results by iteration ( Zhang and Zhu, 2010 ). The obtained corneal impedance results were compared to electrical models using the simulation software Tina-Ti (Texas Instrument, USA).…”
