Effect of ozone therapy on neutrophil/lymphocyte, platelet/lymphocyte ratios, and disease activity in ankylosing spondylitis: a self-controlled randomized study

Abstract: This retrospective self-controlled randomized study was carried out with the participation of 53 patients diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis according to the modified New York criteria. The patients who did not receive medical treatment or did not change their medical treatment within the last 6 months were included in the study. There was a statistically significant decrease in the patients’ neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, monocyte/lymphocyte ratio, C-reactive protein, Visual Analog… Show more

“…The above in uences proved to be modest however. Adequate use of ozone therapy has been introduced for patients with active AS despite insu cient explanations surrounding its immunological mechanism (43), although this may not be applicable to our nding of a potential protective effect seen in ambient O 3 . Although NO 2 is a de nite activator of airway in ammation(44), con icting results were found regarding repeated daily exposure to 2 ppm of NO 2 in small-sample human studies (45,46).…”
