Effect of Oxygen Plasma Pre-Treatment on the Surface Properties of Si-Modified Cotton Membranes for Oil/Water Separations

Abstract: Hydrophobic and oleophilic Si-based cotton fabrics have recently gained a lot of attention in oil/water separation due to their high efficiency. In this study, we present the effect of O2 plasma pre-treatment on the final properties of two Si-based cotton membranes obtained from dip coating and plasma polymerization, using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as starting polymeric precursor. The structural characterizations indicate the presence of Si bond on both the modified cotton surfaces, with an increase of the c… Show more

“…The disclosure of the problem initiated a number of scientific studies focused on finding technical and material solutions to increase the effectiveness of pharmaceuticals that resistant to degradation [ 40 , 41 ]. The most frequently mentioned alternatives are adsorption [ 42 , 43 , 44 ], membrane separation [ 45 , 46 , 47 ], and advanced oxidation processes [ 48 , 49 , 50 ], as well as hybrid methods [ 51 ]. Currently, the highest removal efficiency is achieved by ozonation processes and treatment with activated carbon [ 52 ].…”
