Effect of Organic-Inorganic N Sources on Growth, NPK Nutrients and Secondary Metabolites of Panax Notoginseng (Burk.) F. H. Chen

Abstract: The effects of organic and inorganic N combined application on P.notoginseng cultivation are poorly known. For this reason, we have carried out a pot culture experiment in 2010. The treatments respectively were (1) control (no N input, CK), (2) organic N (ON), (3) half organic N and half inorganic N (1/2ON+ 1/2IN), (4) inorganic N (IN). Plant growth, NPK and secondary metabolites concentration were assayed. Results showed that compared to CK, ON increased plant height, N, P concentration and accumulation and t… Show more

“…The changes in bioactive phytochemicals depend on biological (e.g., organ, growth and development stages, and age) 2 , 9 , 47 , 55 , 56 and environmental factors (e.g., stress, light quality, and cultural practices) 4 , 14 , 19 , 49 , 57 , 58 . In our study, NO 3 ‒ in the PTW, together with K + , was involved in the enhanced free amino acid and ginsenoside contents in the P. ginseng sprout.…”

“…The end product from photosynthesis was glucose, which was an organic material in a plant cell that formed cytoplasm, cell nucleus, and cell wall, therefore it affected the accumulation of plant organic compound. According to Ou et al (2017), the accumulation of plant organic compound was the result of plant synthetic from inorganic compounds such as water and carbon dioxide. Therefore, it gave a contribution to the dry weight of the plant.…”

“…Similarly, PNSs are carbon-based secondary metabolites, which are the main quality ingredients of P. notoginseng. Our previous study also found that N fertilization improves the yield but decreases the PNS content (Ou et al, 2014(Ou et al, , 2017. Interestingly, it has been reported that increasing the application of K fertilizers can improve the accumulation of PNS in P. notoginseng cultivation (Zheng et al, 2014;Xia et al, 2016).…”

“…Interestingly, it has been reported that increasing the application of K fertilizers can improve the accumulation of PNS in P. notoginseng cultivation ( Zheng et al, 2014 ; Xia et al, 2016 ). In view of that, even though N fertilization decreases the PNS content in P. notoginseng ( Ou et al, 2014 , 2017 ), PNSs also can be improved as long as the N/K application ratio is reasonable. This study showed that lowering the N and increasing the K application rate (N:K = 1:2) can promote PNS accumulation ( Figure 5 ).…”
