“…In this study, nine NILs carrying the Gpc-B1 gene and three elite wheat varieties with no Gpc-B1 gene were used to test the effects of foliar application of SA and PN on different yield-related traits, nitrogen concentrations in different tissues and some key physiological parameters. Previously, different concentrations of SA and PN were used to delay senescence and extend the grain filling period in cereal crops, including wheat, in order to increase grain yield ( Singh et al., 2019 ; Singh and Singh, 2020 ; Jatana et al., 2021 ; Singh et al., 2021 ; Abdi et al., 2022 ).…”

“…Similarly, salicylic acid (SA, C 7 H 6 O 3 ) is a phenolic compound that regulates plant growth and development as well as their responses to biotic and abiotic stresses ( Khan et al., 2015 ). The foliar application of SA has been shown to increase grain filling period, TGW, GPS, grain yield, and some other key yield-related traits in wheat genotypes ( Karim and Khursheed, 2011 ; Ziasmin et al., 2017 ; Singh et al., 2019 ; Jatana et al., 2021 ; Stanislawska-Glubiak and Korzeniowska, 2021 ; Abdi et al., 2022 ). The foliar application of 0.75 mM SA at 30 days after sowing (DAS) and seed treatment with 0.75 mM SA produced the best results under late sown and timely sown conditions, thereby, significantly increasing grain filling period, grain yield, proline content, and soluble sugar content in leaves, plant height, and tiller number in two wheat varieties (viz., NW5054 and NW2036) when compared to the control ( Singh et al., 2019 ).…”

“…India, being blessed and enriched with a diverse agro-ecological condition, ensuring food and nutrition security to a majority of the Indian population through production and steady supply particularly in the recent past, is the second largest producer of wheat worldwide ; and Sharma and Sendhil, 2019). The crop has been under cultivation in about 30 million hectares (14% of global area) to produce the alltime highest output of 99.70 million tonnes of wheat (13.64% of world production) with a record average productivity of 3371 kg/ha (Singh et al (2021).
