Effect of Optical Radiation on the Properties of Gamma Radiated Silicate Glass

Abstract: We study the effect of intense laser radiation on the surface of silicate glass prior irradiated by gamma radiation. Experimental results show that the gamma radiation with dose 5 × 10 4 R leads to the degradation of the surface resistance of this optical dielectric to electromagnetic radiation. Depending on the dose of the radiation the laser radiation can result in either surface erosion or its pronounced cracking. It is also found that the efficiency of the degradation process is determined not only by the … Show more

“…При дозе ∼2×10 20 н/см 2 наблюдается только полоса 460 нм. Согласно [3,4], полосы ГЛ 550 и 460 нм в нейтроннооблученных кристаллах кварца связаны с βи метамиктной фазами кварца соответственно. The kinetics of gamma-luminescence bands (GL) in quartz crystals grown on seeds irradiated with neutrons at a dose of 5×10 18 , 10 19 and 5×10 19 n/cm 2 after additional neutron irradiation of 10 16 −8×10 20 n/cm 2 in the temperature range of 77−300 K. Based on the analysis of luminescent properties, the nature of intrinsic defects in the structure of quartz crystals, their role in the formation of color and glow centers has been studied.…”
