Energy needs of many countries are largely covered by energy obtained from fossil fuels. This in turn involves environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The growing environmental awareness and the need to prevent climate changes mean that clean energy and alternative energy sources are still a significant research issue. One of the most important technologies for efficient and low-carbon energy generation is the gasification process and synthesis gas production. Worldwide, there are now more than 270 such installations. More installations are under construction. Syngas is a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Depending on the feedstock, it can also contain smaller amounts of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrogen. The gasification process consists of four stages: syngas production, storage, transport and utilization, e.g. as fuel. Because syngas is mainly composed of flammable and toxic gases, in the event of an uncontrolled release into the atmosphere these processes may pose a potential hazard to humans and the environment. The paper presents the results of analyses related to hazards resulting from an uncontrolled release of gas at the stage of the gas storage, before it is transported or finally used. Hazard scenarios are presented and the probability of their occurrence as well as the consequences for humans and the environment are determined.

Summary Taking the opposed multi‐burner (OMB) coal water slurry (CWS) gasification system as the simulation object, based on the gasification process flow‐path and the flow field distribution characteristics in the gasifier, the model of CWS gasification system is established by using the chemical simulation software UniSim Design, the simulation results are in good agreement with the industrial data. On this basis, the Morris method is used to analyze the sensitivity of gasification parameters, and the response surface between coal gasification performance index and sensitive parameters is constructed by using the response surface method. The sensitivity of different gasification parameters and the impact of key sensitive parameter interactions on gasification performance indicators is investigated. The results show that the gasification parameters have different sensitivities for different responses. When the operating temperature range of the gasifier is limited to 1212°C to 1400°C and the syngas water‐gas ratio is in the range of 1.0 to 1.4, there is a safe boundary for oxygen‐coal ratio and CWS concentration. In actual production, the relevant parameters should be avoided to deviate from the safety region. This article provides a reference for the safe and stable operation of actual industrial production.

Increase in greenhouse gases, has made scientists to substitute alternative fuels for fossil fuels. Nowadays, converting biomass into liquid by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is a major concern for alternative fuels (gasoline, diesel etc.). Selectivity of Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon product (green fuel) is an important issue. In this study, the experimental data has been obtained from three factors; temperature, H 2 /CO ratio and pressure in the fixed bed micro reactor. T = 543-618 (K), P = 3-10 (bar), H 2 /CO = 1-2 and space velocity = 4500 (1/h) were the reactor conditions. The results of product modeling for methane (CH 4 ), ethane (C 2 H 6 ), ethylene (C 2 H 4 ) and CO conversion with experimental data were compared. The effective parameters and the interaction between them were investigated in the model. H 2 /CO ratio and pressure and interaction between pressure and H 2 /CO in ethane selectivity model and CO conversion and interaction between temperature and H 2 /CO ratio in methane selectivity model and ethylene gave the best results. To determine the optimal conditions for light hydrocarbons, ANOVA and RSM were employed. Finally, products optimization was done and results were concluded.
