“…Eradication of H. pylori is the therapeutic end‐point of the research being done on this organism with the aim of finding a drug regimen which would achieve cure rates approximating 100% without compromising on drug compliance and tolerability 9 . Bazzoli’s regimen consisting of omeprazole, clarithromycin and tinidazole achieved a cure rate of 94.6% for H. pylori and has become a useful benchmark to compare other eradication therapies 10 . In our study, we used triple drug therapies in accordance with the Bazzoli regimen.…”

“…This finding is consistent with those of other investigators, who found that the number of patients in whom H. pylori was eradicated was lower than the number in whom duodenal ulcer had healed 2 , . 7 , 13 , 14 The healing of ulcers in patients in whom H. pylori is not eradicated could be a result of very marked acid suppression achieved by the proton pump inhibitors, which were given at double the usual duodenal ulcer healing dose. Healing could also be due to suppression of H. pylori during, or after, the treatment.…”

“…In a meta‐analysis by Chiba et al which was irrespective of dose and duration of treatment, the combination of omeprazole, clarithromycin and metronidazole was superior to omeprazole, amoxycillin and metronidazole (90 vs 84.1% on a sample of 842 and 931 patients, respectively) 42 . In seven studies 4 , 29 , 35 –37 , 39 on a sample of 273 patients treated with low‐dose clarithromycin (250 mg b.i.d.) for 1 week in association with omeprazole and nitroimidazole, an average eradication rate of 93% was achieved, ranging from 90–96% 40 .…”
