Effect of novel continuous friction model on nonlinear dynamics of the mechanisms with clearance joint

Abstract: A general methodology for the dynamic modelling and analysis of planar multi-body systems with a continuous friction model in joint clearance is presented. Joint clearance is the critical factor that influences the dynamic response and the performance of mechanisms for high-speed application. In light of recent developments in the joint clearance studies, the number of contact force models has been introduced with ignoring friction continuity. The selection of an appropriate continuous friction model is still … Show more

“…The Poincare mapping technique [25] is a qualitative approach to identifying the chaos phenomenon. When the discrete points show one or fewer, closed curves, hierarchical and banded distributions, it means that the system is in a state of periodic, quasi-periodic, and chaotic motion.…”

“…The contact force acting on the rollers of pushing chain is significantly influenced by the polygonal effect due to less number of sprocket teeth. Javanfar and Bamdad 24 developed a continuous friction model that estimates the frictional force at the contact interface without any discontinuity, particularly at the transition zone where relative tangential velocity changes from zero to non-zero. As the model recognizes a change in the nature of friction between the contact surfaces from static to dynamic, the ambiguous peaks of contact force are well reduced.…”
