Effect of nano-calcium carbonate content on the properties of poly(urethane methacrylate) nanocomposites

Abstract: Nanocomposites containing nano-calcium carbonate (nano-CaCO 3 ) in the range of 0.25-1.5% (w/w) were prepared via in situ polymerization of urethane methacrylate pre-polymer derived from poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG 400), polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate. Incorporation of nano-CaCO 3 into poly (urethane methacrylate) matrix was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and wide-angle x-ray diffraction studies. Density studies indicated that nanocomposites containi… Show more

“…The tested specimens exhibit similar patterns that reveal the presence of Aluminium and Stainless steel metal. The sharp diffraction peaks correspond to the crystalline nature of Al1050 and SS304 layer [18][19][20][21][22][23][24] whereas diffused diffraction peaks correspond to the amorphous nature of the Adhesive layer [25]. The XRD test shows a sharp peak at an angle of 38 figure 1.…”

“…The N is the number of reflections observed. The obtained texture coefficient TC(hkl) for the Al1050 sheet and SS304 sheet is 3.81(220) and 1.91 (102) [19][20][21][22][23][24][25]. The strain (ε) in the Al1050 and SS304 sheet utilised for the manufacturing of the Al1050/SS304 sandwich composite is determined by using equation…”

“…The shear thickening behaviors of STF are principally characterized by the viscosity and the rate of critical shear thickening. Once the shear rate or shear stress reaches the critical value, the balance of the system is sabotaged and the mobility of the system is prevented, resulting in greater viscosity [6,7]. When the shear rate or shear stress gradually decreases, the viscosity returns to its initial value [8].…”
