“…These results were in agreement with those of Tunc & Dumanb () who incorporated MMT into methylcellulose film and Alboofetileh et al . () who incorporated MMT into alginate film. Similar to the present study, at higher content of nanoclay, a pronounced number of aggregated nanoparticles were observed in the poly (ethylene terephthalate) nanocomposite though the X‐ray diffraction (Litchfield & Baird, ).…”

“…Alginate films have overall appropriate mechanical and optical properties, however, they are sensitive to moisture with poor water and light barrier properties (Al-Hassan & Norziah, 2012;Sirvio et al, 2014). To overcome this problem alginate is blended with different biopolymers, plasticizers and fillers like alginate-pectin (Da Silva, Bierhalz, & Kieckbusch, 2009), montmorillonite clay (Alboofetileh, Rezaei, Hosseini, & Abdollahi, 2013), cellulose nanofibers (Sirvio et al, 2014). In addition, natural antioxidant, antimicrobial agents, flavors and colorants can be amalgamated into packaging materials to expand their functionality, properties and give them novel functions (Norajit et al, 2010).…”

“…However, compared with conventional polymers, neat SA exhibits many disadvantages, such as strong hydrophilic character, poor mechanical properties and low thermal stability (Alboofetileh, Rezaei, Hosseini, & Abdollahi, 2013;Sharma, Sanpui, Chattopadhyay, & Ghosh, 2012), which greatly restrict its applications. Thus, an effective approach for improving the situation is needed.…”
