Effect of modified 45s5 bioglass on physical and chemical properties of bleached enamel

Abstract: Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate of the effects of modified 45S5 bioglass (BG) before, after, and during the bleaching procedure with 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) on the tooth colour change and physicochemical and morphological properties of human enamel. Methods: Forty-two human premolar enamel samples were prepared and randomly divided into six groups as G1: control (deionized distilled water for 20 min), G2: BG (Bioglass suspension for 20 min), G3: HP (hydrogen peroxide 35% for 20 min), G4: BG b… Show more

“…22,23 The EDX elemental analysis (►Table 4) revealed a significant reduction in the Ca/P ratio of the bleached enamel in comparison to the baseline readings, which in agreement with the findings of several previous studies. 24,25 The application of CSSPF showed a significant increase in microhardness compared with values obtained after bleaching. This finding is consistent with other investigations; an in situ study by Joiner et al placed acid-challenged tooth enamel inserts onto patients' partial dentures.…”

“…Several in vitro studies demonstrated that the application of BAG either before, after or during teeth bleaching did not negatively affect the bleaching efficacy. Moreover, this association exhibited many benefits including, reduced mineral degradation [ 47 , 48 ], reduced losing of enamel microhardness [ 49 , 50 ], conserved enamel surface integrity [ 50 , 51 ] and minimized the infiltration of peroxides into pulp chambers [ 52 ].…”

“…In the study of Saffarpour and co-workers, 26 a Sr-based agent was applied to all samples and bleaching treatment was applied to only one group. According to the obtained data, it was reported that the amount of Sr increased significantly in the group treated with bleaching treatment.…”
