Effect of Mn doping on the structural, optical, magnetic properties, and antibacterial activity of ZnO nanospheres

Abstract: In this work, a systematic study of structural, optical, magnetic and antibacterial properties of Mn doped ZnO has been investigated. Zinc oxide (ZnO) and Mn 2+ doped zinc oxide (ZnMnO) nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared through co-precipitation method. The X-ray diffraction studies confirmed that the synthesize nanoparticles did not modify the crystal structure upon Mn doping, but the microstructural parameters were changed considerably while increasing the concentration of Mn dopant. The HRTEM images showed t… Show more

“…Surface doping with manganese has also been tested and resulted in enhanced bactericidal properties. The one-pot co-precipitation method that was used resulted in similar crystalline structures as the pure nanoparticles [ 103 ]. Likewise, a thin polymer film was created by anchoring folic acid doped-ZnO nanoparticles into poly(vinyl alcohol).…”

“…Furthermore, the ion Mn(II) radius is smaller than that of Zn(II), making the doping process easier. Mn-doped ZnO has been successfully prepared by different techniques (e.g., RF Magnetron sputtering [ 38 ], solution combustion technique [ 39 ], sol-gel [ 40 ], ultrasonic spray pyrolysis [ 41 ], spray pyrolysis [ 42 ] and co-precipitation [ 43 ]). Among these synthesis procedures, the sol-gel method at low temperatures is very attractive because it is inexpensive, and its implementation does not demand difficult experimental conditions as physical methods do [ 44 ].…”
