Abstract: Objectives: Mirror therapy is a unique treatment with a touch of modality that is purported to improve the motor function of the affected limb in individuals with hemiplegia. Previous studies have focused on the neuro-physiological factors underlying the mechanism of the clinical effect of this technique. The present study aims to understand the mechanism using the rehabilitation method and neuro-occupation model as well as analyze the effects of mirror therapy on the upper limb function of subjects with spast… Show more

“…While five of the 14 articles were theoretical, the rest were primarily concerned with the application of the model and utilized more complex study designs. These comprised a wide range of topics and populations, including alcohol use disorder (Haltiwanger et al, 2007), spirituality (Champagne et al, 2007), sensory integration (Casillas et al, 2008), children with autism spectrum disorder (Davis, 2009), adult mental health (Champagne et al, 2015), stroke (Derakhshanrad & Piven, 2017, 2020; Derakhshanrad et al, 2016, 2017; Derakhshanrad, Piven, Ghoochani, et al, 2017; Derakhshanrad, Piven & Ghoochani, 2017a; Derakhshanrad, Piven & Ghoochani, 2017b), cerebral palsy (Derakhshanrad, Piven, Ghoochani, et al, 2017), and college student adaptability (Derakhshanrad & Piven, 2018). Thus, the IMP model appears to have impacted many neuro-occupation related manuscripts, in multiple areas of research.…”

“…Ideally, therapeutic perturbations would help a client reach a more functional state. The implications for occupational therapy practice were mentioned across many different clinical populations and settings, including chronic pain (Walloch, 1998), sensory deprivation and sensory overload in the intensive care unit (Howell, 1999), children’s play (Way, 2000), major depression (Gutman & Biel, 2001), posttraumatic stress disorder resulting from hand injuries (Lohman & Royeen, 2002), stroke (Derakhshanrad, Piven, Ghoochani, et al, 2017) and alcohol use disorder (Haltiwanger et al, 2007).…”
