“…Additionally, Ce showed a more detrimental effect in porosity formation because of greater oxidation tendency when compared to La [14]. Meanwhile, La is ubiquitously used as an addition for achieving favorably fine α-Al [15,16], eutectic silicon [1], Fe-bearing phases [5,13], as well as Mg 2 Si phase [17,18], one of the main structural components in 511 type cast aluminum alloys studied in this paper.…”

“…It is of particular note that in the experimental alloys, Al 13 Fe 4 shows a short flake-like shape at a relatively high Fe content (up to 0.12 wt.%). Indeed, it was reported that La may hamper the orientation growth of the Al 13 Fe 4 phase in a similar manner as of Mg 2 Si phase [5]. However, La content of more than 0.25 wt.% brings degradation and formation of very coarse acicular intermetallics related to the AlLaSi phase, which may act as stress raisers, thus being detrimental to mechanical properties.…”

“…Therefore, understanding the relationship between the mechanical stress and the electronic characteristics or electron transport mechanism can help avoid catastrophic failure when working in harsh environments and is key to the practical applications of SiC NWs-based devices in a mechanically disturbed environment, especially for ultra-thin SiC NWs. Furthermore, based on such relationships, high-performance stress/pressure sensors can be made with ultra-thin SiC NWs [7] and applying mechanical stress can be used as one effective way to control electrical properties by means of the tensile behavior [25,26]. SiC NWs could be a promising material for electrical control switches.…”

“…Recently, attention is shifting to the synergistic effect of La and other elements, such as B [19], Mg [20], and Sr [21], on microstructures of aluminum alloys. Our latest work demonstrates that only a few hundred ppm of La is enough to improve the microstructures [22][23][24]. Considering the wide use of Al-5Ti-1B and great potentials of La in improving microstructure, it is necessary to explore the combined effect of TiB 2 particles and trace La on microstructure evolution of aluminum alloys.…”
