Abstract:Eighty Holstein steers were fed ground ear corn and corn silage diets supplemented with either soybean meal, liquid molasses-urea, dry urea or urea-soaked, ground ear corn for a period of 84 days. Dry urea was equivalent to soybean meal as the only source of supplemental nitrogen for Holstein steers weighing from 237 to 455 kg. Use of urea and molasses slightly reduced gains while urea in a solution for soaking ground ear corn caused significantly reduced gains (P < 0.05).
