Effect of mental oxide on the structure and property of rare earth doped glass

Abstract: Glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) is a very widely used material. However, the highly alkaline environment in concrete will erode and destroy the glass fiber therein, so it is particularly important to improve the corrosion resistance of glass. In this study, ZrO2 and TiO2 were introduced into the La2O3-CaO-Al2O3-P2O5 system glass and their effects on the structure and properties of the glass were systematically studied. The results show that the introduction of ZrO2 and TiO2 has a similar effect on rare … Show more

“…Table 2 presents the band positions and their corresponding assignments. The assignments of bands are established by employing data from related glasses in the literature [ [29] , [30] , [31] , [32] ]. The peak at the higher wavenumber of 1260 cm −1 corresponds to the asymmetric stretching vibration of (PO 2 − ) groups; weaker bands are located at 1130 cm −1 (shoulder), and the symmetric stretching modes ν s (PO 2 − ) and ν s (P–O–P) are assigned to around 785 cm −1 and 770−640 cm −1 , respectively.…”

“…The ARGFs can generally be divided into two categories based on the manufacturing methods of the fiber materials. One common category is manufactured from formulating chemical compositions of a glass matrix with the optimum content of a rare earth or metal element [ 5 , 6 ]. The other one is mainly processed by coating the surface of fiber matrices with unique sizing agents [ 7 , 8 ] to improve the alkali resistance served in an alkaline environment.…”

“…With respect to the formulation of glass compositions, the incorporation of rare earth or metal elements can obviously increase the resistance to alkali attack in fibers [ 6 , 9 ], such as zirconia and titanium dioxide, etc. Dou et al [ 9 ] investigated the effect of TiO 2 on the alkali resistance of basalt fibers in 1 mol/L NaOH solution.…”
