Effect of mating combination and environmental factors on hatchability of chicken eggs in Tibet

Abstract: To improve the hatchability of introduced highyield chickens in Tibet, and ameliorate the egg yield and reproduction traits of the local Tibetan chickens, four mating combinations between the Recessive White and Tibetan chicken were employed to investigate the effect of the mating combination and environmental factors on hatchability in this study. The results showed that the fertility of the eggs with Tibetan chicken as female parent was significantly lower than that with Recessive White as female parent (P<0… Show more

“…If the cuticle had been damaged, there would be an increase in water loss through the pores of the shell (Peebles et al, 1998). Geng and Wang (1990) and Mo et al (2007) also stated that rapid moister loss was a disadvantage for the normal embryonic development.…”

“…Sire-dam random regression model for analyzing fertility that accounts for all sources of variation had been proposed (Wolc et al 2009). In determining the effect of mating combination and environmental factors on hatchability of chicken eggs in Tibet, Mo et al (2006) concluded that the mating combination and environmental temperature were important in hatchability of chicken eggs. RozempolskaRucińska et al (2010) reported that of all traits studied, fertilization rate was least affected by service sire.…”

“…Cost effectiveness of a hatchery enterprise is determined mainly by the fertility and hatchability of the flock (Peters et al, 2008b). Environmental temperature and mating combination are important factors in determining the hatchability of eggs (Mo et al, 2007). In the present study, significant differences were observed in hatching traits of breed crosses reared in three production systems.…”
