Effect of Galla сhinensis on the Wear Resistance of Dentine

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of natural herb material Galla Chinensis extraction (GCE) on the wear resistance of dentine in vitro. Forty sound bovine dentine blocks were prepared and randomly divided into two groups. The samples were first treated with 4000 ppm aqueous solution of Galla chinensis and distilled deionized water (DDW) was used as a control. Then the samples were subjected to 5,000 cycles of attrition bathed under artificial saliva with 150 N loads. Wear measurement, scannin… Show more

“…Scratching assays were performed with a nanoscratch tester, and damage features revealed by Knoop surface microhardness (SMH) and the widths of scratches showed that the re-hardened surface of the enamel, produced by the application of GA, did not enhance the wear resistance of the enamel (Gao et al, 2009). However, other groups have reported that GCE can enhance the wear resistance of dentin and protect tooth dentin from attrition (Li et al, 2013). The explanation may be given as follow: natural enamel has 2% organic matrix, which behaves like a soft wrap around the mineral crystal.…”
