Effect of Low-Frequency Noise on Adiabatic Passage in a Superconducting Nanocircuit

Abstract: Recent experiments have demonstrated coherent phenomena in three-level systems based on superconducting nanocircuits. This opens the possibility to detect Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage (STIRAP) in arti¯cial atoms. Low-fequency noise (often 1=f) is one of the main sources of decoherence in these systems, and we study its e®ect on the transfer e±ciency. We propose a way to analyze low frequency°uctuations in terms of¯ctitious correlated°uctuations of external parameters. We discuss a speci¯c implementation,… Show more

“…Therefore, we could easily choose κ = ν s /ν p ≈ n 12 /n 02 ≫ 1. However, using larger values of ν s does not improve the transfer efficiency in CPB's 34,45 , therefore we will let κ = 1 hereafter.…”

“…As usual the master equation for the time evolution of the matrix elements of the density matrix can be written in the eigenbasis of the system Hamiltonian, (11) with relaxation and dephasing described by the tensor R nmn ′ m ′ . However, for the driven system considered here, the eigenbasis, i.e., the energies E m (t) and R nmn ′ m ′ (t) also depend on time.…”

“…STIRAP, therefore, has also been proposed for achieving single-qubit rotations in quantum information experiments 7 . Specific protocols were discussed for superconducting qubits, charge qubits 8 , phase qubits 9 and the quantronium 10,11 . Experiments on electromagnetically induced transparency and the formation of a dark state, both effects closely related to STIRAP, have also been performed [12][13][14] .…”

“…In particular, the relaxation from a metastable state under the influence of a dissipative environment constitutes an interesting application of the theory of this class of open quantum systems [1][2][3] to devices for quantum computation such as SQUIDs, multilevels nanodevices and others [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. We consider a periodically driven quantum system, characterized by a metastable state, in interaction with a thermal bath described by the Caldeira-Leggett model [13].…”
