Abstract: Introduction Although there are different causes of low back pain, intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is one of them. In healthy discs, nociceptive nerve fibers and mechanoreceptors penetrate up to the outer annulus fibrosus (AF). In contrast, the endplates are heavily innervated.
