Effect of L-lysine in culture medium on nodule formation by bone marrow cells

Abstract: The aim of this study was to estimate the effect of L-lysine on nodule formation by rat bone marrow cells in vitro. In this study, L-lysine was added to medium for mesenchymal stem cell culture to promote proliferation and differentiation of the cells, and then nodule formation was estimated in an in vitro rat bone marrow cell culture. Bone marrow cells from the bone shafts of the femora of Fischer 344 rats were cultured in minimum essential medium with 20 μl of L-lysine s… Show more

“…In place of such commonly used reagents, l- lysine was proposed to assist PEG grafting and to improve osteological bioactivity of the composites. l- lysine is known to promote the adhesion of osteoblasts to the surface of the material, which may positively correlate with cell proliferation [ 10 , 11 ], and was found to improve the osteogenic potential of the bone marrow stromal cells [ 12 ]. l- lysine can be used as a food supplement and its intake benefits in increased bone mineral density and lowered prevalence of osteoporosis [ 13 ].…”

“…It was also reported that nutrition for the rBMCs in the pores may be supplied through the hollow center of the scaffold. Furthermore, adhesion of the rBMCs to the pore wall of the scaffold can be effectively encouraged by coating the scaffold with chemical agents [10] [11].…”

“…The selection of an effective supplement is desirable for the promotion of stem cell proliferation in culture. Yoshikawa et al reported that some amino acids had the possibility of promoting bone formation by bone marrow cells in a porous HA scaffold [21]. Thus, amino acids were evaluated in terms of their ability to promote bone formation using rBMCs as a supplement by coating on the materials in the scaffold in this study.…”
