Effect of ketjenblack and barium titanate on the piezoresistive behaviour of silicone rubber particulate composites

Abstract: In the present study, silicone rubber reinforced with ketjenblack and barium titanate were fabricated using high temperature compression molding method. These particulate composites are characterized for piezoresistive sensitivity. Ketjenblack and barium titanate are the conducting and dielectric fillers in the high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber matrix. The effects of ketjenblack and barium titanate fillers, filler loading, amount of curing agent, curing temperature and mixing time on the piezoresisti… Show more

“…Flexible sensors have attracted attention due to simpler design, stretchability and tailored sensitivity with low power requirements [6]. Soft pressure sensors can be formed based on various transducing principles, such as piezoresistive sensing [7,8], piezoelectric sensing, capacitive sensing and transistor mechanism [9]. Piezo capacitive sensors offer benefits of low signal drift and simple device structures, low power consumption and lost cost [10].…”

“…The increase in electromechanical sensitivity is reasoned to signi cantly reduced elastic modulus due to plasticizing effect of polyethylene glycol. The reason given for the behavior change is the synergistic effect that still requires a clear understanding of many aspects including but not limited to the optimal amount of each ller, mixing procedure, curing method, time-temperature dependent factors, and similar [17]. However, a considerable amount of literature has been published on the effects of hybrid ller on the behavior of the different constituents of silicon, polyurethane, and natural rubbers.…”
