Effect of Javanese Turmeric (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) Extract on Hepatitis Model of Alcohol-Induced Mice

Abstract: <p class="KEYWORDS">Alcoholic hepatitis is a common cause of non-viral hepatitis. Javanese turmeric (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) contains xanthorrhizol and curcuminoid that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The purpose of this research was to detect the effect of Curcuma xanthorrhiza in decreasing hydropic degeneration and lymphocytes in alcohol-induced mice. This experimental research used post-test only controlled design. Randomly, 35 mice were divided into five groups. Four groups were induced… Show more

“…C. zanthorrhiza-inhibited proinflammatory cytokine production in mice induced high-fat diet. C. zanthorrhiza extract at 100 mg/kg body weight/day decreased IL-1β gene expression by 89.9% compared to the control group (Ilene et al, 2020). C. zanthorrhiza was also reported to stimulate total and differential leukocytes in African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) (Lestari et al, 2019).…”

“…It has 2-m tall erect pseudostems (Rajkumari and Sanatombi, 2017) and is generally cultivated in village home gardens. The rhizomes smell balmy and taste bitter (Ilene et al, 2020). C. zanthorrhiza has been used as an active ingredient in cosmetic and hygienic products in Germany and the Netherlands (Drugbank, 2021).…”

“…The SGPT and SGOT activity of DEN þ JTK were lower than the DEN þ black tea kombucha group. Javanese turmeric contains xanthorrhizol, curcumin, phenolic compounds and triterpenoids which do not exist in black tea (Puteri et al, 2020). During kombucha fermentation, microbes released these hepatoprotective compounds and produced organic acids such as glucuronic acids and DSL by using sugars added to the substrate (Martínez-Leal et al, 2018).…”
