Effect of Irrigation on Growth, Yield, and Chemical Composition of Two Green Bean Cultivars

Abstract: Abstract:A study was conducted in an environmentally controlled greenhouse to evaluate two green bean cultivars, 'Bronco' and 'Paulista', under three application volumes of irrigation water based on replacing 100, 80, and 60% of evapotranspiration (ET). The experiment was in a split-plot design with three replications, recording vegetative growth, yield, pod parameters, water use efficiency (WUE), and chemical content of pods. The results showed that there were no differences between 80% ET and 100% ET for mos… Show more

“…It could be attributed by the genetic variations between the different cultivars, i.e., American and Brazilian cultivars. It is well known that the actual performance of any cultivar depends on its genetic parameters interacted with all surrounded environmental conditions (Saleh et al 2018). The obtained variations between American and Brazilian cultivars in vegetative characters are mainly due to the genotype of each cultivar.…”

“…Irrigation scheduling may have an impact on crop water productivity, affecting fruit yield and quality as well [76][77][78]. However, the targeted performance of a crop is largely situational; as irrigation might also be used as a tool for increasing water use efficiency, for maximizing yield or economic return [79].…”

“…In India, approximately 5.5 tonnes per acre of land can be produced [6] while it is about 2.3 tonnes per acre in Greece [7]. The world produces about 5.7 tonnes per acre while China produces about 10.7 tonnes per acre as the world's leading producer [8].…”
