Effect of internal surface structure of the north wall on Chinese solar greenhouse thermal microclimate based on computational fluid dynamics

Abstract: Chinese solar greenhouses are unique facility agriculture buildings and widely used in northeastern China, providing a favorable requirement for crop growth. The north wall configurations play an essential role in heat storage and thermal insulation and directly affect the management of the internal environment. This research is devoted to further improve the thermal performance of the greenhouse and explore the potential of the north wall. A mathematical model was designed to investigate the concave-convex wa… Show more

“…However, there is another methodology, based on modeling and simulation that allows studying the air flow patterns inside a greenhouse and its effects on the spatial temperature distributions. This methodology is computational fluid dynamics (CFD), which is considered an agile and robust simulation technique [15][16][17].…”

“…In recent studies, CFD was used to simulate the effects of solar radiation that constantly affects heat balance, which can either boost or reduce plant growth inside a greenhouse. In this paper, the P-1 radiation model (equation (2.4)) was applied to the solar radiation, which is used for the heat transfer in the greenhouse [ 41 ]. where a is the absorption coefficient, is the scattering coefficient, G is the incident radiation and C is the linear-anisotropic phase function coefficient.…”

“…During the summer, the water source of coming from the underground water. It relies on the circulation of cool underground water to absorb excess heat, thereby optimizing the operating temperature of the greenhouse [35]. The operation time of the system is 10:00-15:30 and the average water temperature in the water channel is about 17˚C.…”

“…The CFD simulation easily allows parametric study to analyze hypothetic ventilation configurations, especially when ensure that different configurations are prior embedded in the same computational dominant and grid [35]. It numerically solves a set of partial differential equations for the conservation of mass, momentum, and energy.…”
