Effect of Interface Pretreatment of Al Alloy on Bonding Strength of the Laser Joined Al/CFRTP Butt Joint

Abstract: In the present research, the carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) was laser joined with the Al alloy whose joining interface was pretreated by laser micro-texturing, anodizing, and hybrid of laser micro-texturing and anodizing. The surface morphology of the pretreated Al joining interface and bonding strength of the corresponding Al/CFRTP butt joint were investigated. The results show that the laser micro-texturing has fabricated the micro-pit or micro-furrow in the Al joining interface. With the incr… Show more

“…The surface pretreatment of aluminum was performed using a hybrid method of laser micro‐texturing and anodizing technique 63 followed by Al/CFRTP butt‐joint laser welding experiments. As the laser scan distance and welding time increased, the strength of the joint first declined and then increased.…”

“…Yiyun Ye et al 43 performed laser welding to join AA7075 and CF-polyamide (CF-PA) in butt joint configuration. Authors examined different surface pretreatment effects such as laser micro-texture, Anodization, and hybrid treatment (laser micro-texture + anodization) on the joint shear strength.…”

“…The laser metal surface plastic coating method and high-speed rotary laser welding technology were applied to improve the quality of the CFRTP-TC4 joint. Another paper [48] describes the bonding of a CFRTP composite to an aluminum alloy. The interface connecting these materials was pretreated by laser microtexturing, anodizing, and a hybrid of laser microtexturing and anodizing.…”
