Effect of Integrated Nutrient Management on Seed Vigour Potential of Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) during Ambient Storage

Abstract: The experiment was conducted at Department of Seed Science and Technology CCS, Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, Haryana from 2013-15 and comprised of seventeen treatment combinations of manures (viz., FYM and Vermicompost), bio-fertilizers (viz., Rhizobium and PSB) and fertilizers. The freshly harvested fenugreek seeds of all the seventeen treatment plot combinations were stored in plastic containers under ambient conditions up to a period of eighteen months. Seed quality was assessed at a regular interv… Show more

“…The highest germination % at the end of 120 h was observed in the treatment T 5 (31.50%) which was at par with T 10 , T 12 and T 13 . Similar trend was observed for other seedling quality parameters like seedling length (14.09 cm), seedling (Peerzada et al 2016). This decrease of quality is due to loss of membrane integrity in ageing process and leads to more loss of electrolytes into the imbibing medium.…”

“…Highest vigour index-I and II (Table 1) were recorded in the seeds which received the treatment 100% recommended dose of nitrogen through vermicompost along with biofertilizers (T 5 ) which was at par with treatment T 13 and T 10 . Release of certain enzymes by metabolites responsible for the conversion of macromolecules into micromolecules within the seed and increase in mobilization efficiency led to improved vigor index (Anitha et al 2015, Peerzada et al 2016and Maruthi and Paramesh, 2016.…”

“…The treatment also led to the highest seed yield, indicating enhanced plant metabolic activity and the synthesis of growth hormones, consistent with [17,5,6].…”
