Effect of Injectable Platelet-Rich Fibrin on Diced Cartilage's Viability in Rhinoplasty

Abstract: Diced cartilage is one of the most widely used camouflage technique in rhinoplasty. Its variable resorption rate creates issues in postoperative time period. Platelet-rich fibrin is an autologous concentrated blood derivative containing growth factors that accelerate tissue healing. The authors evaluate the effect of injectable platelet-rich fibrin (I-PRF) on the viability of diced cartilage, which has been used for dorsum camouflage in rhinoplasty. Forty patients were randomly divided into two groups based on… Show more

“…The use of other methods in rhinoplasty may equally offer similar or even superior results, 32 but the practicality of L-PRF makes it an excellent alternative. The L-PRF membrane is strong, elastic, and flexible, as well as having a favorable architecture to uphold the healing process.…”

“…Nasal dorsum irregularities are some of the most commonly encountered problems after rhinoplasty, and visible or palpable irregularities are one of the most frequent reasons for revision rhinoplasty. 1,2 To avoid this, dorsal camouflage is frequently used as a method, not only to support skin-soft tissue envelope, but also to correct minor irregularities of the bony and cartilaginous nasal dorsum. 1,3 Many nasal camouflage techniques were previously defined, and several materials, including autologous and nonautologous grafts, were used with that purpose.…”
