Effect of Jiawei Fengshining on Synovial Cell Apoptosis and TGF-β1/Smad Signaling Pathway in Rats with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract: Background/Aims. Jiawei Fengshining (JWFSN) is a new formula originated from Fengshining, a classic formula for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The mechanism of JWFSN in the treatment of RA is still unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of JWFSN formula on the inflammatory mediator levels in the serum and the TGF-β1/Smad pathway in the synovium and to explore the underlying mechanisms of JWFSN formula to ameliorate synovial hyperplasia and apoptosis inhibition of synovium in rat… Show more

“…Except for the control group ( n = 8), each rat was injected with 0.2 mL the mixture under the plantar fascia of the left hind foot to get the CIA rat model. The injection volume is 0.1 mL/mouse, and each animal is injected once [ 16 , 17 ]. On the 7th day after the inflammation, the foot and plantar volume were measured.…”

“…It not only causes great sufering for patients and family members but also brings heavy fnancial burden for individuals and society [5]. Drugs that reduce joint pain or retard the progression of disease include nonsteroidal antiinfammatory drugs (NSAIDs), disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), and steroids and biological response modifers [6]. However, these drugs can produce serious side efects, including renal toxicity, gastrointestinal toxicity, hepatic damage, and myelosuppression [7][8][9][10].…”
