Some of men have been suffered from the insufficient secretion of testosterone causing by physical factors, social and psychological factors. Testosterone is an essential steroid hormone controlling male reproductive function. Alternative medicines in plants, fungi, and insects have been studied to enhance sexuality. Cordyceps species including Cordyceps sinensis (CS) and C. militaris(CM) has been used as for the enhancement of sexual functionfor hundreds of years in Far East Asian. In the present study, we determined the effect of fruiting bodies of C. militaris which cultured on bee drone medium (CMD) and brown rice medium (CMB) on testosterone concentration in Sprague-Dawley rats. Eighteen rats per group were housed to regular diet or diet supplemented with CMB and CDD, respectively for 4 weeks. Serum was collected from 6 rats per group. Results showed that changes of the body weight, food and water intake of the rats were not observed in this study. However, both CMB and CDD increased the serum testosterone concentration in rats. Furthermore, CMD significantly stimulated testosterone production (p <0.05) compared to the control. Hence, it suggests that C. militaris fruiting bodymight be developed as a complementary medicine to improve sexual hormones.

However, the mechanisms by which cordycepin contributes to the anti-tumor still obscure. Here our present work showed that cordycepin inhibits cell growth in NB-4 and U937 cells by inducing apoptosis. Further study showed that cordycepin increases the expression of p53 which promotes the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria to the cytosol. The released cytochrome c can then activate caspase-9 and trigger intrinsic apoptosis. Cordycepin also blocks MAPK pathway by inhibiting the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, and thus sensitizes the apoptosis. In addition, our results showed that cordycepin inhibits the expression of cyclin A2, cyclin E, and CDK2, which leads to the accumulation of cells in S-phase. Moreover, our study showed that cordycepin induces DNA damage and causes degradation of Cdc25A, suggesting that cordycepin-induced S-phase arrest involves activation of Chk2-Cdc25A pathway. In conclusion, cordycepin-induced DNA damage initiates cell cycle arrest and apoptosis which leads to the growth inhibition of NB-4 and U937 cells.

Recibido 07/10/16 Aceptado: 23/12/16 RESUMEN El Hígado Graso No Alcohólico (HGNA) es una patología de creciente interés en la comunidad médica en general, por ser considerada el componente hepático del síndrome metabólico, asociado a dislipidemias, obesidad y diabetes mellitus. Teóricamente se ha considerado al estrés oxidativo como el factor determinante en su etiopatogenia, originado por una menor actividad antioxidante y el incremento de factores pro oxidante a partir de la hiperinsulinemia.En este estudio se realiza el diagnóstico de hígado graso a través: de análisis clínicos, de laboratorio, ultrasonográficos, el NAFLD Score; además del método no tradicional: Sistema Cuántico Bioeléctrico (QRS), el cual presenta sensibilidad de un 85%, que fue verificado con los hallazgos de laboratorio y ultrasonográficos. La investigación parte con un grupo de 28 pacientes que fueron diagnosticados como HGNA por el sistema cuántico (QRS), y de este grupo se seleccionaron cinco solo tres pacientes que cumplían todos los criterios de inclusión y exclusión de la muestra.Los sujetos de estudio recibieron durante seis meses suplementación con cuatro cápsulas diarias que contenían 13 antioxidantes cada una. Como resultado se obtuvo la normalización de los parámetros clínicos, bioquímicos, ultrasonográficos y el sistema cuántico bioeléctrico de los tres sujetos de estudio sin modificaciones en la dieta ni en su actividad diaria. Theorically, oxidative stress has been considered as the determinant factor in its ehiopatogeny, originated from a lower antioxidant activity and the rise of prooxidant factors starting from hyperinsulinemia.In this research the diagnosis of fatty liver was made through: clinical and laboratory tests, ultrasound, NAFLD Score; besides the non traditional method Quantic Bioelectric System (QRS) which has an 85% sensibility that was verified through findings in laboratory and ultrasonographic tests.
