“…This was apparent both from an increase in HFnu power, a decrease in LFnu power and from a decrease of the LF/HF ratio. Thus our findings add new arguments to the controversy found in the literature: they are in line with previous findings [4,27,28,44] but in contrast to other studies [27,30,35,45,46] , as well for heart rate as for HRV parameters. Possible reasons for this discrepancy could be in the choice of population and/or in methodology.…”

“…Ray et al [30] concluded that hypnotic induction did not differentially influence parasympathetic activity. Also Baglini et al [46] , based on a study of hypnotic sedation in 23 patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, did not find any changes. However, the latter study was in patients with coronary artery disease and during a cardiac intervention.…”

“…Yuksel et al [20] demonstrated that in women HRV decreased during hypnosis. Baglini et al [10] demonstrated that the increase in the sympathetic activity during transluminal coronary angioplasty could be decreased with hypnosis but not with benzodiazepines. Our findings are in parallel with these studies, and our study demonstrates that hypnosis affects HRV, shifting the balance of the sympathovagal interaction toward an enhanced parasympathetic activity, concomitant with a reduction of the sympathetic tone.…”

“…At the same time, during the treatment of non-cardiac chest pain, the frequency of pain decreases; during percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, the increase in cardiac sympathetic activity can be decreased with hypnotic sedation [10].…”
