Effect of Hydrostatic Pressure on the Propagation of Partial Discharge Acoustic Signals in Transformer Oil

Abstract: In this research article an attempt is made to investigate the effect of hydrostatic pressure on the propagation behavior of Partial Discharge (PD) acoustic emission (AE) signals in a simple experimental tank. A mathematical model has been developed in the form of partial differential equations (PDEs) for PD acoustic wave propagation in transformer oil in a steel tank. A Finite Element Analysis tool (FEMLAB), has been used to simulate the propagation of the acoustic waves. The simulation results show that the … Show more

“…These systems are generally subject to many faults which affect and degrade their insulation levels, it emerges from the results of the statistical study of transformer failures that these systems (insulators) are the main cause of failure of power transformers [ 4 , 5 ]. The degradation of the insulation system is due to a harmful phenomenon called partial discharge (PD) [ [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] ]. The PD level is closely related to the insulation level of a transformer, which is why monitoring PD provides information on the condition of the insulation system [ [11] , [12] , [13] , [14] ].…”
