Abstract: It was found that when an improper amount of HR was applied, the occlusal vertical dimension increased and the oral mucosa was pressured more than that under non-HR conditions.

“…Liner type denture adhesives, namely, home reliners or cushion type denture adhesives, are designed to fill the gap between the intaglio surface of the denture and the basal seat mucosa by enhancing the fit. 8 , 9 , 12 , 13 , 14 Improper use of liner type denture adhesives may lead to absorption of the residual ridges. 15 , 16 The long-term use of such materials may cause the loss of flexibility and dimensional change, resulting in ill-fitting between the denture and mucosa and in instability of the dentures.…”

“…However, several researchers have reported that proper use of liner type denture adhesives reduces displacement and stress concentration on the basal seat mucosa, 13 , 17 , 18 reduces masticatory pain, 19 and improves masticatory function and patient satisfaction. 20 , 21 Furthermore, it has been reported that significant differences in satisfaction and functional outcomes were not found between maxillary complete dentures lined with liner type denture adhesives and those with tissue conditioners.…”

“…By filling the gap between an ill-fitting denture and the denture-bearing mucosa, home reliners attenuate the pain caused to thin mucosa 1) . Previous studies have shown that the denture shift and the concentration of stress on the denture-base mucosa may be reduced by the appropriate use of home reliners 2,3) . Furthermore, several researches have shown that chewing ability and patient satisfaction levels are improved using home reliners [4][5][6] .…”
