“…It has been observed previously that feeding of a diet containing 40 per cent groundnut oil to rats disturbed the conversion of tryptophan to niacin and caused depletion of niacin in urine and tissues (1). The ketone bodies, acetoacetate and (3-hydroxybutyrate which have been reported to be produced in large quantities in high fat feeding (2) and have also been observed to disturb the conversion of tryptophan to niacin in rats (3), appear to be contributing factors in such disturbance.…”
