Abstract:This paper presents a comparison of the impact of H þ and N þ ion irradiation on the chemical structure, microstructure, and gas permeation properites of the polyimide, Matrimid 1 . While irradiation with both ions resulted in evolution of chemical structure with loss of functional groups and crosslink formation, there was greater modification of polyimide structure following N þ irradiation at similar total deposited energy. Irradiation with N þ resulted in simultaneous large increases in permeance and permse… Show more
“…Through exposure to ion beam irradiation, there were simultaneous increments of permeability and selectivity in Matrimid membranes. However, the ion beam led to degradation of the polymer backbone [22][23].…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
