Effect of grain size on the ultrasonic parameters in stainless steels

Abstract: In this study, the influence of grain size on the velocity of ultrasonic waves and ultrasonic attenuation in stainless steels was investigated. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the capability of ultrasonic techniques in the assessment of the grain size of steels. Heat treatment processes were carried out in order to obtain different grain sizes for AISI 304 stainless steel specimens. AISI 316 stainless steel specimens were produced by casting and tested in as-cast condition. Velocities of ultrasonic lon… Show more

“…The shift in T C value after sintering is attributed to the reduction in the grain size. Attempts have been made to correlate the grain size dependent ultrasonic velocity and attenuation in stainless steel [38], Zn nanostructured materials [39], tungsten and boron carbides [40] and polycrystalline Ni-Zn ferrites [41]. Similar to U L and U S ,˛L and S exhibit variation in magnitude as well as shift in peak position from 375 K to 370 K (Figs.…”

“…Foram encontrados coeficientes de determinação R² de 0,98 em ambas as análises. Esse resultado é similar ao encontrado porMutlu, Oktay e Ekinci (2009). A equação (2.80) e (2.81) mostra que é possível relacionar o diâmetro dos grãos com as velocidades das ondas longitudinais e cisalhantes(Badidi Bouda, Lebaili e Benchaala, 2003).…”
