“…A previous study performed in llamas has reported that the injection of a GnRH analogue on Day 7 after natural mating was useful to induce an accessory CL formation [21]. However, plasma P4 concentration, which was evaluated only on Days 7 and 14 post-mating, did not show significant differences between treated and control groups.…”

“…Similarly, in sheep, the administration of hCG some days post-mating induced the development of an accessory CL accompanied by an increase in plasma P4 concentration [18,19,20]. In llamas, the development of an accessory CL has been achieved by the administration of a GnRH analog on day 7 post-mating [21]. However, these authors have not found an increase in plasma P4 concentration on Day 14 post-mating nor an improvement in pregnancy rates.…”

“…The secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is inhibited, resulting in low levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and LH. Hence, the development of follicles is blocked, causing apathy in yaks [ 13 14 15 ]. Yak lactation can cause prolonged periods of postpartum anestrus.…”

“…The level of gonadotrophin‐releasing hormone receptor (GnRHR) mRNA in the hypothalamus is higher than that in the pineal gland, pituitary gland and ovary during oestrus of yak (Huo et al., 2018). This GnRH leads to accessory corpus luteum formation, but neither the plasma progesterone concentration nor the pregnancy rate is affected by having an accessory corpus luteum (Abalos et al., 2018; Biehl et al., 2017; Desaulniers et al., 2017; Kaim et al., 2003). The follicle‐stimulating hormone receptor ( FSHR ) mRNA expression level is higher in the pituitary gland tissue compared with luteinizing hormone receptor ( LHR ) during oestrus of yak, whereas there is low expression of FSHR and LHR mRNA in the pineal gland and hypothalamus.…”
