“…The antibacterial activity of chitosan-HPMC films was significantly reduced when the amino groups of chitosan were cross-linked with citric acid, revealing the vital importance of the protonated amino groups of chitosan for antimicrobial action. Moreover, the biofilms prepared by Agustin and Padmawijaya 83 showed fair antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli . Recently, Chang et al 84 prepared chitosan-based plastic films, which had high antibacterial activity; especially with an inhibitory efficiency of over 95% against E. coli , P. fluorescens , and S. aureus .…”

“…In comparison to the composites without glycerol, addition of glycerol reduces the level of intramolecular hydrogen bonding in chitosan altering the intrinsic antibacterial activity of chitosan and WS 2 NTs. [ 82 ] The bacterial‐growth‐favoring properties of CG films with increasing WS 2 NTs concentration may also be due to the ability of E. coli and S. aureus to utilize glycerol as a carbon source via dehydrogenation and/or phosphorylation pathways. [ 83 ] Since the antibacterial assay is performed in a multi‐well plate, bacteria can grow both in a planktonic state and by producing biofilms.…”

“…There are various methods to determine the antibacterial activities of the prepared hydrogel films. The agar disc diffusion method was carried out to detect the antibacterial activity [67]. Each set of the PVA films' 20 µL liquid samples was impregnated onto the antimicrobial susceptibility test discs.…”
