Effect of gibberellic acid on germination capacity and emergence rate of Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) seeds

Abstract: Seedlots of sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) originating from three different provenance regions were collected in autumn 2012. The seed quality, namely vitality and germination rate, was assessed according to Czech conventions. There were four replications within each seedlot, i.e. twelve treatments altogether for each experimental variant. The effect of gibberellic acid on germination and vitality was studied using three treatments including a control for germination capacity and three treatments incl… Show more

“…WRKY27 is gibberellins-responsive transcription factor (Gu et al 2019). Here and for the rst time we have reported its possible association with SFW and seed germination as gibberellins are intrinsic factors involved in the germination process (Stejskalová et al 2015). Protein kinase APK1B, the other SFW-associated gene, is required for ABA signaling during germination (Fujii et al 2007;He et al 2011).…”

“…The effect of gibberellic acid (GA 3 ), a well-known phytohormone that regulates plant growth, has been rarely studied in industrial hemp, though it has been well studied in other crops [18,20,[41][42][43][44].…”

“…Seed germination and early seedling growth depend on several factors, including varieties with different seed sizes [10][11][12], seed sources [13][14][15] and seed origins [16,17]. They also respond differently to pre-treatments with chemicals, such as plant growth regulators [18][19][20], seed disinfectants [21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28] and cold temperatures [29][30][31][32][33].…”

“…Seeds from each mother tree were germinated separately by placing eight seeds into a 90 mm diameter petri dish on top of two filter papers. Filter papers were soaked with a 200 mg/L of gibberellic acid potassium salt solution [30] and dishes were incubated in a closed box for one month within a 4°C fridge. For three mothertrees, and additional 16 seeds were germinated in the same way.…”
