Effect of Friction Stir Process Parameters on the Mechanical and Thermal Behavior of 5754-H111 Aluminum Plates

Abstract: A study of the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process was carried out in order to evaluate the influence of process parameters on the mechanical properties of aluminum plates (AA5754-H111). The process was monitored during each test by means of infrared cameras in order to correlate temperature information with eventual changes of the mechanical properties of joints. In particular, two process parameters were considered for tests: the welding tool rotation speed and the welding tool traverse speed. The quality of… Show more

“…Hence, the existence of direct proportionality of the peak temperature with these parameters has been established. Results presented by Serio et al in their research also support the fact that the thermal behavior of joints is closely connected to the process parameters, which therefore, also strengthens the simulation model presented in the research [15,16]. …”

“…Moreover, some researchers [45][46][47] were focused on the thermography method which has been defined as a modern method for investigating the thermal field through online monitoring of the process, inspection and research. It should be mentioned that, this method is mainly used to determine the thermal field variations, when the measurements are difficult or impossible to record (i.e., inside the weld).…”
