“…These procedures include pylorus-preserving distal gastrectomy [66, 67], segmental gastrectomy [68], proximal gastrectomy [43, 69, 70, 71, 72], and partial gastrectomy [73]. When compared with the conventional Billroth I gastrectomy, pylorus-preserving distal gastrectomy and segmental gastrectomy were featured by less frequency of dumping syndrome and better quality of life of patients [66, 67, 68].…”

Proximal gastrectomy reconstructed by jejunal interposition or gastric tube is modern surgical treatment for EGC located in the gastric cardia [69, 70, 71, 72]. …”

“…Animals in the present study were not pair fed, and differences in the amount of food consumed may have influenced the results because nutrients are considered trophic to the intestines. Surgery greatly reduces food intake for 2 to 3 days in young adult rats, but intake returns to normal at 5 to 6 days after surgery (30). In suckling rats, the reduced food consumption inhibited body growth during the first week and reduced it in the second week after surgery.…”

“…Recently, the advance in diagnostics and techniques has increased the number of detections of early cancer of the gastric cardia [3], and the prognosis of patients with early gastric cancer is excellent [4, 5]. Although recent Japanese reports stress the usefulness of proximal gastrectomy reconstructed by interposition of a jejunal pouch [6, 7], the procedure is complicated and time-consuming, and needs some special devices [7]. This report describes a simple and useful technique and early results of proximal gastrectomy with gastric tube reconstruction for early cancer of the gastric cardia.…”
