Effect of Pb Volatilization on Dielectric Properties of 0.77PbMg1/3(Nb0.9Ta0.1)2/3O3-0.23PbTiO3

Abstract: Lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate (PMN-PT) is an intriguing candidate for applications in many electronic devices such as multi-layer capacitors, electro-mechanical transducers etc. because of its high dielectric constant, low dielectric loss and high strain near the Curie temperature. As an extension of our previous work on Ta-doped PMNT-PT aimed at optimizing the performance and reducing the cost, this paper focuses on the effect of Pb volatilization on the dielectric properties of 0.77Pb(Mg 1/3 (Nb 0.9 T… Show more

“…Furthermore, there is a possibility of inadequate or excessive PbO, which may result in Pb deficiencies and Pb-rich secondary phases. [15] The lead vacancy in PZT-based materials due to the volatilization of PbO during the high-temperature sintering process produces defects/oxygen vacancy in the host material. This causes the appearance of the pyrochlore phase in the PZT material, which has been the limitation of the materials that it is hard to synthesize a single-phase compound.…”

“…Bidault et al [5] prepared 0.9PMN-0.1PT ceramics with different lead vacancies by using different sintering times and found that a change in the polar cluster due to lead vacancy formation weakens the dipolar interaction and inhibits the spontaneous relaxor to ferroelectric phase transition. Our previous study shows that using an extra PbO buffer surrounding the samples during sintering improves phase purity and enhances dielectric properties better than adding extra PbO to the sample [6]. In this paper, we have designed a method to prepare perovskite 0.7Pb(Mg 1/3 (Nb 0.9 Ta 0.1 ) 2/3 )O 3 -0.3PbTiO 3 samples in which Pb volatilization varies in different parts of the sample during the sintering, and then studied microstructure and electromechanical properties of them.…”
